SOME-WHERE

Exhibition of contemporary Dutch art, within the Bilateral Fokus ’09, at Gallery Luwigana, from 3.10. 2009 to 27.10.2009.

Being some-where, at the same time being present, being aware of the moment, marking it, and materializing it. Images help us to be free of limitations of our bodies, walking the road of imagination, where there is no threat of the mortality and its demands.

The artist before us came to us from Netherlands in the context of the cultural exchange. They are some kind of travellers, drawing the roads, upon we walk on, when we are confronted to their images. Thus the feelings we have, become visible, ideas are given the status of reality, get their own bodies. With images before us we are magically, only with the help of the eye, we are moved to distant and exotic places of Piet Lap, where water colour creations are feathery light, as considered ideal for the spirit of adventure:  “Anyhow, I prefer to travel light and the simple watercolour-equipment goes best with my restlessness”. Or we can play an active part in the animal, event or reflective images of Carla Kleekamp, who quotes G.B. Shaw: “Animals are my friends and I do not eat my friends”, demanding from us, a shift in a different understanding of the world around us. Last but not least there are abstract two dimensional images of Ad Arme, where we embark ourselves on the night adventure of dream world, where meaning is never the same, smudged, metaphorical and what we see is always something else, depending on the context or the position of the spectator: »Art is not about omitting, but about allowing (then you can always allow omissions…) «.
